TriVatch Paper Wars
Print and play role playing game. Continued development through community sharing of ideas and creations. Keep watch for upcoming release of standard rules, templates, and developer created adventures. Below we've included the materials to start getting yourself familiar with. The files are all PowerPoint for easy manipulation. There are three basic items in TriVatch Paper Wars: Hexahexaflexagon, Spinners, and Fortune Tellers. The Hexahexaflexagon is used for tracking and managing character growth and skills. A hexahexaflexagon is a flat paper toy that when folded can open to faces previously not visible. Players have varying stats on each face of the hexahexaflexagon. Players can transform themselves between these different forms and different stats by using their energy. Because players can run into any event requiring anything from using weapons to using words, carefully managing transformations is key. The Spinners are used in place of dice. Spinners are earned, upgraded, customized to fit the players questing style. Spinners have a base value and can be flipped inactive to reap the benifits of that base value. For example, my spinner valued at 3 has the numbers 0,0,1,2 on the face. In different situations, I will spin for different boosts. I can, however, decide to take the boost of 3 at the cost of deactivating the spinner for future use until recharged. As players grow in stats, their spinner collection likewise increases. The Fortune Tellers control events. The Fortune Teller file has an example of how we used this for a Chinese game. All of our prototypes have been hand filled using the included blank template. In combination with spinners or player decisions, fortune tellers carry the reactions of NPC and other interactions with items like doors, locks, walls, gates, etc. Construction tutorials and gameplay demos coming soon!
